Sukkot In Israel is a great time for music, with 2-3 concerts everynight. This year for the first time we had RockAmi in Jerusalem a great mix of Jewish rock from several different genres.
There was a great atmoshphere and some great performances from the line up.

Majuda are one of the most exciting new bands I have seen for a while mixing African beats and sounds with Jewish and even hip hop vibes, creating a lively spiritual sound. The bands make up of Israelis, South African and French musicians says a lot about them and great group of pople with a big future in front of them.

ok its taken a while to find these pics but here we go

Hi again
Last Saturday night saw the annual battle of the bands competition, now renamed “Unity of the Band’s”
It was a good show, even if the changes where not as quick as they could have been.
The bands all showed a lot of potential for the future with a range of styles from accoustic/ folk style to rock/ metal.
A big shout goes out to the winners Az Yashir, congratulations and good luck for the future
Here are some pics from the competition. Pictures of the special guest bands Yood, Meir Solomon and brothers and Hamakor to follow shortly

Looking at some of my last posts you might notice a bit of a pattern, namely the solomon family.
Soulfarm is made up of C Lanzbom and Noah Solomon. Solomon a memeber of the Moshav Mevo Modiin family has brothers in the forefront of Jewish music namely the Moshav and Hamakor.
Nafatali opened up the gig with a good performance but the fact the venue was still half empty didnt help build up a real atmosphere, and although they have matured a lot over the last few years, they still have someway to come but deffinately a band to watch in the future.
Soulfarm managed in a song to make the place seem full, people up on their feet dancing moving enjoying the music.
C Lanzbom playing guitar in a way only he knows deffinately putting him up there as one of the best jewish guitar players mixing styles from spanish/ flamenco to blues and rock guitar, with flowing licks and ripping solos. Solomons voice has developed since their first albums it still hasnt lost that sweetness but he has developed it into a frontman that any band would put on stage.
During the show they played a full range of styles mixing blues and rock with folk, irish, and some origional african sounds. Anyway enough talking here are some picky’s

Reshimu is a small comunity centre/ cafe in the nachlaot/ Share Chesed area of Jerusalem. From what I have understood it is based on religious ideals and Chasidic teachings. This is the second concert I have been to there but the first with a camera.
Yonatan was playing on his own with the support of his bassist Naor and drummer. He is a classicly trained musician and all his music has the feel of a true pro running throughout the performance swithing effortlessly between guitar piano and chello even during a song. His music is soulful and ful of yearning for happiness.
He performed most of the songs from his first disc plus a few new songs, including Vehi Sheomda wich he sang with Yaackov Shweki during Shwekis Ceaserea performance in September of 2008.
After the concert I went behind the scenes to say hello to this lovley young man whom I have now photographed on several occaisions to be greeted with a big smile and a hug.
I think we can expect huge things from this singer songwriter in the years to come

I plan in the near future to write a few ords about the Shweki concert and post some pics from the event, even though it was so long ago a dvd of the event has recntly be release so now would be a great time to post

I have recently been working on my portfolio of music/ gig photography
Hopefully I have done this correctly and by clicking HERE you can view it
Enjoy, Keep Smiling
I know this is a funny way to start a blog but instead of giving a long boring intro to who I am, and where I am from that nobody will really read Im just gonna start blogging.
My main passion in photography is band/ music photography, and although the Israel music scene is very limited when it comes to big name’s there are a lot of very good groups out there. Musically there are very few bands that can rival the Moshav an LA based Jewish band whom I have been following for the last few years recently I was lucky enough to get to photograph some of their concerts they did in Israel (Bet Shemesh Fest, in the LAB, and the Yellow Submarine). here are some of my fav shots from there most recent acoustic show in the Yellow Submarine, Yehuda with the Israeli contingent of Nimrod (violin) and Danny (guitar) did a one off acoustic special there was a great energy and even without the rest of the band they where sounding great.

Thanks guys for a great concert
Hamakor are a Jerusalem based group that play a uniqe blend of elcto – rock with Jewish and ethnic influences. The singer/ rhythm guitarist Nachaman Solomon is the younger brother Yehuda Solomon of Moshav and Noah Solomon of Soulfarm and there influnce can be felt a little in their music, although they do have their own uniqe sound.
They Recently headlined a concert in Jerusalems Yellow Submarine where I was brought in to photograph for the band and while the warm up group Optimystical where doing their soundcheck we went into the backstage area of the sub and did some promo shots for the group. I had a lot of fun and I think I got some good results even if I did only have about 15min and a very basic strobist set up.
